Lewandowski makes the difference for Bayern

"Life insurance" Robert Lewandowski has saved a further flagging Bayern Munich from the next sensible setback.

The striker secured a reckless 3: 2 (1: 1) for the once again unconvincing German football champion with a double in the Champions League match at Olympiacos Piraeus.

However, after the cruciate ligament tear of defensive chief Niklas Süle in Javi Martínez (thigh) and Lucas Hernández (knee), the defensive department complains of the next painful failures.

"Lucas has severe ankle pain on the ankle," said Coach Niko Kovac on "Sky". According to a first diagnosis, a ligament injury may be present.

The Bayern set a club record with their eleventh away game in the premier class without defeat in a row and are now with nine points on the way to the second round. However, they could not completely banish the onset of the fall depression in view of their largely meager appearance and further injuries.

"We have struggled again, we have to get back to Bayern-like," said captain Manuel Neuer "Sky": "Everybody has to do a better job, the problem is that we always have to score three goals, it's annoying that we lost two more." This was the fifth consecutive competitive game.

Piraeus attacker Youssef El-Arabi (23) had brought the Greek cauldron boiling over with his surprising lead. Lewandowski (34th and 62nd) turned the tide with his competitive matches number 17 and 18 respectively after preliminary work by Thomas Müller. The 2014 World Champion was back in the starting lineup for the first time after six competitive matches. Martínez substitute Corentin Tolisso sent on a dream goal (75 '), but Guilherme scored again with a shot (79') deflected by Thiago.

Despite being the clear leader in Group B, the demands of President Uli Hoeness ("horny on goals", defensive stability) not completely redeemed. The FCB had plenty of possession, but little wit. There was too often a willingness to go deep into the crucial runs. In the midfield, where Martínez, as requested by Hoeneß, ran into six, the usual gaps were clear, the defense wobbled frequently.

Müller prepares for both Lewandowski goals

Joshua Kimmich prevented him from going on to a 1-0 lead and Müller, who was allowed to start on the side of Philippe Coutinho for the first time, the flank not. Hernández came in the duel with El-Arabi too late and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer stopped the ball only behind the line. Lewandowski exploited after a Müller chance in the margin to equalize, before the 2: 1 assistant Müller head.

"I've always said: Everyone will get his chance and has his reason to exist," said coach Niko Kovac Sky over Müller: "Thomas knows how to play in this hot stadium, he is fresh and will make a really good game." Kingsley Coman, "exhausted," according to Kovac, after many missions, remained outside.

His team had to "pull the tooth" the hot-blooded fans early, demanded Kovac – but the forceps had apparently misplaced the Bayern. After a failed attempt at clarification by Hernandez Neuer prevented the 0: 2 (31).

Piraeus always comes back to opportunities

Then Kovac put to: Coutinho moved to the left, Müller from the right in the Middle – and made it possible in his first good scene promptly equalizer. But the actions of Bayern were not determined. The injury-related changes – Tolisso for Martínez (46th) and Jérôme Boateng for Hernández (58th) – brought little more security.

Instead, the staid Greeks came again and again to Torszenen. The goal of Tolisso from 17 meters into the upper right corner of the gate allowed Hoeneß and CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to breathe only briefly for a short time.
